The History of the Scottish Fold Munchkin Cat has not been well documented. Unfortunately, these cats had a genetic mutation that caused their ears to fold forward rather than stand up straight, as with most other breeds of cats. The first known breeding pair came from a farm near Edinburgh where Peter Ross discovered them, who took them home and bred them with his ordinary house cats, which resulted in offspring with folded ears but no other distinct features.
However, In the 1960s, a young couple named William and Mary Ross discovered a litter of kittens on their farm. They noticed that one kitten had folded ears like those found on Scottish Terriers. So they gave this kitten to the vet, Dr. P.G Drysdale, who then passed it along to another veterinarian. The veterinarian who crosses this cat breed with many other cats results in Scottish Fold Munchkin, Scottish Fold Tabby, Scottish Fold Sahiplenme etc.
People had seen these beautiful creatures throughout the world for many years – at least since 1966 when they became eligible to be shown in cat shows.
